A Rose For All by GekkouKitsune A Rose For All by GekkouKitsune
STOCK PHOTO USED FOR REF: [link]

I originally was not going to make anything, but when I could not find the right one to send to my friends I decided to make my own.

There's lots of errors. The coloring is wacky. I tried to do too many things.

It's not perfect,
It wasn't meant to be.
It has it's lovable quirks,
Just like you and me.

So this (belated) Valentine's Day, I decided to make something for everyone, and for everyone to send.
It isn't much. It's simple. It isn't specific. All that's written is my usual signature. It's doesn't have any characters, original or fan art.

So may this fill your needs to tell someone you know and love just how much they mean to you.

Time: 6 hours
.5 HB mechanical pencil, Prismacolor colored pencils, Prismacolor colorless blender marker and pencil.

Happy Valentine's Day. :)

Thank you! I kind of wish I had used watercolors with this XD
But I only have 24 colors (i think) with those pencils so I have to be more creative.

Thank you. :D

I wish I had added more shading on the right side of the flower, but I don't really have a "dark red" color that I know of, and the colors I had been using for the outer lower petals would make it look wilted, and I didn't want that! So I ended up with this.

I might have to hit up my local art shop for singles and see if they have any darker red colors that aren't basically brown. >.> lol

Wow! This is absolutely amazing!
Eeee~ I love traditional drawings. All the different colours used! They all compliment each other, and mix so well together! I am really impressed! :]
You need to make the image bigger so you can really appreciate all the details, and get a real feel for all the time and effort you've put into this piece.
I must say, you did an excellent job with the leave, I would have given up. xD

You've honestly don't a bloody good job! And only in 6 hours?
Either you're bloody speedy, or I am bloody slow. xDD

I do love how you haven't added a caption :)
Some of the pieces I came across made me feel a bit awkward, because I want to send them to a friend, and didn't want them running for the hills from me. xD

Thank you. :) I some of my most used colors were crimson red, poppy red, black cherry and black grape, and grass green, apple green, olive green, and dark green for the leaves, amongst many others. I used white and a peach pink color on the rose, the stalk, and the beginning part of the leaves, and the primary color that I used for the stalk and some of the veins was pumpkin orange.
To give the leaves a glossy feel and lighting I used spring green, but the translucency didn't convert well. =\ So to me it looks a little random.

Black cherry, black grape and pumpkin orange are colors I have ordered online from a place called Blick.com, and they are very, very handy. :3 Probably some of my favorites to use, when I can use them. Grape is more like a black and blue/purple color, and black cherry is more a black/red color, but it still has a hint of purple. Similar but different.

I left the big preview version at 900 width. I did have it at 1074whatever that one is, but to be honest it looked blurry. :( That's why I switched it to the default.
But, you do realize you can "Download" it and get the full resolution, right? 1200x2055?

I have one saved directly from scanning though that's 4.5 MB and is 1637x2804, but that's a bit too big imo, at least in file size. So I usually shrink them a little. (I keep my graphite pieces biggest size if I can, the file size isn't outrageous since it's just greyscale.)

As I told my friend last night, I spent about 2 hours I guess on the line art itself, and then 4 on coloring. I take my time coloring most of the time and apply everything lightly and in moderation. I saved the leaves for last, and I got bored and kind of exhausted near the end so I rushed the last leaves. Can't really tell though.

lol, tell me about it. That's one reason why I made this. Way too many that used personal characters or personal greetings that wouldn't have made a lick of sense. I kind of feel weird since my sig is on this, but it's nowhere near as weird as some of the ones I've seen. XD Why even put some of those in the Valentine's directory? The #HQ blog thing specifically said that anyone would be able to see and send them, so to think about it before uploading it there, or something like that.

Anyways, I think this would have been better if I had painted it, but that would've taken far longer.

Mine was pretty last minute, and I'll admit I actually kind of rushed it on the leaves, got boring near the end. Since it was a pop-up project, I started feeling guilty spending so much time on it since I have other things to do and make soon.

I overdid it a little and tried to do too much. :XD: The rose petals themselves, I used like 12-16 colors here and there. :P

I got ahead of myself sometimes. Especially when shading.

Thank you. :P It's kind of sloppy though.

I wasn't even going to make one, but since my friend sent me a premade one and I couldn't find one suiting, I decided to make one myself to send back and to everyone else (like my watchers lol)

3 hours last night, 3 hours tonight. 2 on line art, 4 on coloring.

The coloring doesn't do the lineart justice though. I was surprised. A couple things are out of place and the stem is shorter than it should be, but otherwise it's a nice replica of the ref pic (flipped, of course)

Like I said before, I attempted, but I just wasn't feeling up to it. I find that I love writing more. Story telling is apparently my thing....

I always screw up coloring. It's like a law. .w.

I can only try!

We have this group assignment in English class and we have to write a science fiction story, the limit being about a page and a half. I'm still pissed because there's no way I can get any story down in that amount of space! It's so annoying! *sob*
